Paradox of Choise

Updated: Aug 24, 2020

A simple example to explain Paradox of choice. There are 2 types of Job appliers. One are Satisfisers and others are Maximisers. Satisficers are happy with whatever comes in front of them. They are ok with it not very fussy. They also have a lower attrition rate in the future. On the other end, there are Maximisers, who will make lists, apply for several jobs, go to many interviews. A couple of months after getting the job they think to themselves "I wish I had taken the alternate option" They are uneasy, they regret, they want to change.

Basically Maximisers form a picture of an ideal job profile in here mind. Cherry-picking points from one offer and one from another. In reality, The ideal job, just like an ideal life partner, never exists, it's only in the mind. All have pros and cons.

Think of shopping you will instantly know which category you fall in. Are you happy after shopping? or you regret that you should have picked the alternate option, Does seeing another watch already after you have purchased one make you feel upset? Do you take too much time to chose (like this kid) even then are not satisfied with your choice? Then you are Maximiser. Somewhat like me, I admit.
